two unusual clay structures of the late Bronze Age

Clay structures found inside the Late Bronze Age building: on the left the western one, on the right the eastern one.
The westernmost structure from the Late Bronze Age building (1974). These two identical clay structures from the first occupation level feature a series of shallow cavities surrounded by decorative grooves; they were set up above small pits. As they have no parallels so far, some scholars have suggested that they should be interpreted as altars and the building as a sanctuary. The fact that they disappear in the next level, however, argues against this hypothesis.
